The Sacramento Bee reports that 49-year-old Robert L. Pizzagati faces charges of second-degree murder in the death of the 43-year old restaurant owner.
Pizzagato told police that he shot the victim in self-defense on Sunday.
Authorities say the two had an argument and that Pizzaggati fired at the victim with a handgun.

Pizagati has a history of mental illness.
He was convicted of first-degree robbery in 2016, and sentenced to three years probation.
